If you love Iron Chef for the creativity and competition, you are a DIY fanatic, a design junky, or a fan of Portland's quirky, innovative, and unique talent, then grab your friends and family and head down to the east waterfront on Labor Day for the Annual Dropbox Derby, Portland's design-build challenge!

Teams of builders, artists, and designers compete to create a unique work out of salvaged materials according to a chosen theme. Teams receive a brief 24 hours before the competition with a list of salvaged materials each team must use, as well as the theme for the year. Teams have the following 24 hours to prepare and plan their design with the hope of winning the competition. Beginning at 10 the next morning, teams race the clock to bring designs to life. The work is built right before your eyes. Immediately following the 2:00 final bell, judging begins. Judging and awards ceremony are followed by a silent auction with all proceeds benefiting a local non-profit.

This is a family-friendly and free event and features food, drink, and live music! Last year’s event featured food from The Spicy SpoonAybla Grill and Fifty Licks Ice Cream. Beverages were provided by Cider RiotStormBreaker Brewing and Portland Roasting Coffee. Entertainment was provided by LaRhonda Steele and Friends, Los Palmeros, the Ukeladies PDX, and the Last Regiment of Syncopated Drummers.

Brought to you by Lovett Deconstruction. Pioneer Millworks sponsored the event, along with Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), the City Of Portland - Planning and SustainabilityMetroRecology, Heiberg Garbage and Recycling, and Salvage Works
